Let the Games Begin

The above video clip is of a college marching band performing their show at a football game. I showed this clip to the kids on Friday because we are learning the song with different lyrics...."Harry Potter's in the house tonight". They loved the clip so I included it on the Blog for this week.....ENJOY!! I am a huge marching band fan.

Our new Quidditch Quest for Gold will begin on Monday, October 17, 2011. The students will begin their new AR Goal Reading Challenge. The goal deadline is November 22, 2011. So start reading and testing. All goals will be a little larger than the previous 6-weeks....because now we know what your potential is.

Housekeeping:

• Monday, October 17, 2011: Beginning of 6-week grading period. New AR Goals start here. PLC early release.


• Thursday, October 20, 2011: Parent Teacher Conferences 4:00-6:00 pm scheduled conferences. 6:00-8:00 pm Open House. Come and see what your kids have been doing.


• Thursday/Friday, October 20-21st: Grandparent's Day 8:30 AM in the cafeteria


• Friday, October 21, 2011: AR/BFG Party--Our whole class made it!! Way to go!!

Language:

This week is a genre study. The students will be learning about different types of poems and will be writing some poems in class. We will begin re-copying our Personal Narrative stories so we can prepare to send them into the publishers. They will make great Christmas gifts. The spelling list is as follows:

Math:

This is the week we have been waiting for. We think the kids are really grasping the idea behind ungrouping for subtraction in the tens and hundreds place. This week will really test their subtraction skills as we begin to subtract across zeros.

Social Studies:

This past week we began to study" about communities...how they began, how they grow, and how they function. What is the history of a community? What are the roles of citizens in a community?

Questions of the Week:

Lucky for you guys and gals, there are three questions this week but you still get to earn only one red token for providing the answers. The first question is a math question......
