Looking Forward to a Great Week Mates!

We are starting a new literature unit; the theme is Animal Habitats. There will be plenty of great stories about a variety of animals for all of the animal lovers in our classroom. The first story is one of my favorites--Nights of the Pufflings.

Following is a spelling list for the week. We are concentrating on vowel + /r/ sounds as in hair.

  • hair

  • care

  • chair

  • pair

  • bear

  • shere

  • scare

  • air

  • pear

  • bare

  • fair

  • share

Challenge words: buy, could, flair, farewell

ISAT tips:

Homophone: words that sound like each other but have different spellings and meanings. For example:

I---eye

son---sun

one---won

flower---flour

MATH MADNESS

Please continue working on your subtraction facts. We are regrouping in the tens place and in the hundreds place. I call this regrouping twice it's really nice. We are practicing strategies in class which will give the students success. One of the best strategies is to be neat in your work and leave plenty of space between problems.

Social Studies Unit

Continuation of the Arctic Unit. You may want to ask your child which countries are located within the Arctic Circle. There are seven of them. Good Luck!

Question of the week: Can you name five different pairs of Homophones? Post your comment for a prize.

Happy New Year!!

Hi Students of much happiness! Mrs. Shore and I hope you had a most adventurous Holiday Season. We can't wait to see you when school gets started again. When you get back we are going to start a new story in reading and begin subtraction with regrouping in math. We have approximately 9 more days of school until we begin the next six-week grading period. I hope you all got some fantastic books over the Holiday and have been reading. (I have to admit, I read all of the Twilight Series books. It was about 2400 pages of non-stop excitement).
