Language Arts:
This week we are starting our Rain forest book study of "Afternoon on the Amazon". We read a few chapters everyday and answer guided reading questions. Some of the students have already read the story but it is a great review as we prepare for our Rain forest play. We will be practicing the play the entire week. The students are not required to memorize their parts, they just say them as they hold their animals.

We will also be completing our "Newspaper" headliner on living in a balanced community. This has been a great project for the kids!!

Math:
Awesome job on using the book to do your work! You are getting quite efficient at copying down the problems and solving them. This week, we will start our review on subtraction.

Science:
The students are working on a nutrition unit with small cooperative groups. They are responsible for the reading, a slide show, a presentation, a poster, and a report. They have a lot of fun doing this together. Our class butterflies have all made their chrysalis. They should emerge at the end of next week. It usually takes them about 2 weeks to form into a butterfly.

Question of the week:
What is the difference between perpendicular lines and parallel lines? If I couldn't see the lines, how would you explain them to me?

What is the area of a garden spot that is 7 feet wide and 8 feet long?
