Our classroom "Bengal" Quilt

We just completed the first story in our new Literature series. The story was "The Keeping Quilt" by Patricia Polacco. This was actually a true story about the woman who wrote it. It talked about a family quilt that was passed down from one generation to the next.

This coming week our literature selection is called "Grandma's Records" by Eric Valasquez. The spelling words concentrate on the long O sound:

  • coach

  • blow

  • float

  • hold

  • sew

  • though

  • sold

  • soap

  • row

  • own

  • both

  • most

  • cold

  • snow

  • tomorrow (challenge)

  • program (challenge)

  • can (high frequency)

  • an (high frequency)

  • your (high frequency)

  • there (high frequency)

We are continuing to work on rounding to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousands in math. We are discussing communities and how they started in our Social Studies Unit.

Keep reading every evening and don't forget to bring in your reading log.

Questions of the week:

What is the fifth high frequency on the spelling list? I missed one!

What are the order of the planets from the sun?
